Bennet Cantu said goodbye to 2011/12 Euroleague edition with 71-77 victory in Kaunas. The Italian squad finished as third ranked team of Group H with 3-3 record and their 15-point loss in Tel Aviv was crucial. At the other side, Zalgiris finished Euroleague Top 16 winless (0-6). Manuchar Markoishvili exploded Cantu in this meeting. He drained 32 points and reached valuation 35. Markoishvili made 5 triples and was perfect from the line (9/9). Giorgi Shermadini had 16 points and 8 rebounds, and Nicolas Mazzarino netted 9 points. For the hosts, Marko Popovic collected 15 points and 5 assists. Milovan Rakovic followed him with 14 points and 7 rebs, while Mantas Kalnietis stopped to 12 points. The hosts led 62-59 after Marko Popovic free throws midway through the fourth quarter. But Markoishvili knotted the score with a triple and then Giorgi Shermadini scored the game’s next 5 points as Cantu pulled away to record the victory. Quarters: 23-18, 12-21, 15-11, 21-27. Both teams will focus on domestic championships now.
