Top 16 Round 6: Unicaja - Gescrap BB 55-59

Bilbao reached Euroleague Quarterfinals in its debut season in the continent’s premier competition by edging past Unicaja 55-59 in Malaga on Thursday. Thanks to this crucial victory, Bilbao improved its score to 4-2 in Group B of the Euroleague Top 16 phase. Montepaschi and Real Madrid have the same numbers, but Montepaschi is No.1 in this three-way tie and Bilbao grabbed the second place, what was enough for the Playoffs. Unicaja ended with poor 0-6. Marko Banic had 10 points and 6 rebounds for the guests, and Aaron Jackson also scored 10 pts. Hero of the game against Montepaschi last week, Raul Lopez, had 9 points for 13 minutes on the court. Unicaja got 19 points and 7 rebs from Hrvoje Peric. Luka Zoric had 11 points and 11 rebs, while Alejandro Abrines netted 9 pts with poor shooting from behind the arc (1 of 7). Unicaja had 51-50 lead with something more than two minutes left in the game. Raul Lopez drained a triple for Bilbao after that and Marko Banic followed with a layup for 51-55 with 1:19 to go. Abrines made two free throws for Unicaja and Raul Lopez answered with two at the other side. E.J. Rowland added 2 more from the foul line for the hosts, cutting the difference to 55-57, and putting pressure on Lopez to make his foul shots with 6.2 seconds to go. He made both to ice the game, as Gescrap squeezed out the win 55-59. Quarters: 16-15, 6-9, 14-18, 19-17. Bilbao will play against CSKA Moscow in the Quarterfinals.
