Regular Season Round 14: Unics - Triumph 73-76

The most exciting game of round 14 in the PBL took place in Kazan. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 6th ranked Unics Kazan (5-5) to fourth ranked Triumph Lyubertsy (7-4) 76-73 on Sunday evening. The guests trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 21-6 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Triumph Lyubertsy dominated on the defensive end, holding Unics Kazan to just 6 points in third quarter. 32 personal fouls committed by Unics Kazan helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Canadian power forward Kyle Landry (207-86, college: N.Arizona) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 9 rebounds. American forward Davon Jefferson (204-86, college: USC) contributed with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Five Triumph Lyubertsy players scored in double figures. The former international forward Kelly McCarty (201-75, college: S.Mississippi, agency: Avi Zilberman) replied with 24 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and naturalized Belarusian forward Vladimir Veremeenko (208-84, agency: RU-Basket Management) added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Unics Kazan. Unics Kazan's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Triumph Lyubertsy moved-up to third place. Unics Kazan at the other side keeps the sixth position with five games lost. Triumph Lyubertsy will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Unics Kazan will play at home against the league's leader CSKA Moscow (#1) and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
