Regal Barca is 2-0 up against Unics in the Euroleague Quarterfinals. The reigning Spanish champ had to work very hard to beat Unics 66-63 last night at the Palau Blaugrana. Teams were tied to 61-61 in the finish, after what Marcelinho Huertas missed around the basket but Kosta Perovic collected a key steal, drew a foul at the other end and calmly made free throws for a 63-61 Barcelona edge with 48.6 seconds left. Vladimir Veremeenko committed a turnover on the other side, but Huertas made just one of his two free throws. Unics had the possession and there was 8.2 seconds to go. Henry Domercant was fouled and he made 1 of 2 from the line, Mickeal matched him and then Domercant’s desperation heave missed, which left Barcelona with the win and series lead. Juan Carlos Navarro top-scored in victory with 18 points and Erazem Lorbek had 14. Pete Mickeal helped with 12 points. In defeat, Nathan Jawai shined with double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. Bostjan Nachbar had 16 points and 5 rebs, while Lynn Greer stopped to 7 pts. Quarters: 17-13, 16-17, 18-18, 15-15. Teams will meet against next Tuesday, when Unics will be the host.
