There was no surprise when 10th ranked BC Nizhny Novgorod (1-12) was edged on the road by eighth ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (6-7) 82-79 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 12 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 3 points. Spartak St.Petersburg made 29-of-33 free shots (87.9 percent) during the game. BC Nizhny Novgorod was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard Patrick Beverley (185-88, college: Arkansas) fired 15 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (made all of his ten free throws !!!) for the winners. Forward Valery Likhodey (205-86) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. Serbian guard Ivan Paunic (194-87, agency: Beo Basket) produced 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and Serbian guard Nemanja Protic (182-86) added 16 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Spartak St.Petersburg and four BC Nizhny Novgorod players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Spartak St.Petersburg moved-up to sixth place. BC Nizhny Novgorod lost tenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
