Very important is a road loss of second ranked Ataman (16-9) against ninth ranked Sojuz Zaretchny (6-19) on Saturday night. Visiting Ataman was crushed by Sojuz Zaretchny in Zaretchny 87-68. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Ataman. The game without a history. Sojuz Zaretchny led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Sojuz Zaretchny forced 25 Ataman turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Sojuz Zaretchny especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. It was a good game for center Dmitriy Ponosov (220-84) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Denis Novikov (200-85) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Five Sojuz Zaretchny players scored in double figures. Forward Nikita Gresev (204-88) answered with 14 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and point guard Ilya Oleynikov (184-87) added 15 points in the effort for Ataman. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sojuz Zaretchny maintains ninth place with 6-19 record. Newly promoted Ataman keeps the second position with nine games lost. Sojuz Zaretchny will again play against league's second-placed Ataman in Rostov in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ataman will have a break next round.
