Regular Season Round 35: Sojuz Zaretchny - Ryazan 70-95

Rather expected game when 9th ranked Sojuz Zaretchny (6-22) was smashed at home by sixth ranked Rjazan (12-14) 95-70. The game without a history. Rjazan led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Sojuz Zaretchny's 36 and made 20-of-26 charity shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Rjazan forced 20 Sojuz Zaretchny turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Sojuz Zaretchny's players. It was a great evening for center Nikita Stepanenkov (208-87) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Vladimir Ivlev (207-90) helped adding 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Forward Aleksander Pushkin (203-87) responded with 20 points and 6 rebounds and forward Roman Vasilev (200-89) scored 15 points. Five Rjazan and four Sojuz Zaretchny players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rjazan maintains sixth place with 12-14 record. Sojuz Zaretchny lost third consecutive game. They stay dead last with 22 lost games. Rjazan will play against higher ranked Universitet-Yugra (#3) in Surgut in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sojuz Zaretchny will play on the road against Spartak V. (#8) in Moscow and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
