The game between second ranked Ataman (18-10) and seventh ranked Ruskon-Mordovia (12-16) was the most important one in the last round on Thursday night. Ataman was crushed by Ruskon-Mordovia in Saransk 44-80. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Ataman. The game without a history. Ruskon-Mordovia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Ataman to just 4 points in third quarter and to 9 points in second half. Ruskon-Mordovia forced 19 Ataman turnovers and outrebounded them 36-20 including 26 on the offensive glass. Guard Anton Ageev (192-84) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Power forward Alexei Kuznetsov (203-84) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Four Ruskon-Mordovia players scored in double figures. point guard Dramir Zibirov (187-86) answered with 10 points and the former international guard Valentin Kubrakov (194-72) added 2 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Ataman. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ruskon-Mordovia maintains seventh place with 12-16 record. Newly promoted Ataman keeps the second position with ten games lost. Ruskon-Mordovia are looking forward to face higher ranked Severstal (#5) in Cherepovec in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ataman will play at home against TEMP-SUMZ Revda and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
