There was no surprise in Cherepovec where 7th ranked Ruskon-Mordovia (13-17) was defeated by fifth ranked Severstal (15-15) 57-44 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Severstal. Ruskon-Mordovia managed to win third quarter 13-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Ruskon-Mordovia to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Guard Sergei Zakharov (194-86) stepped up and scored 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and power forward Anatoliy Goritskov (211-83, agency: Ryzhov Stanislav) chipped in 6 points and 12 rebounds. Severstal will meet at home bottom-ranked Sojuz Zaretchny (#9) in the next round. Ruskon-Mordovia will play against Spartak V. in Moscow and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
