Regular Season Round 3: Severstal - Sojuz Zaretchny 74-70

No shocking result in a game when ninth ranked Severstal (2-1) beat bottom-ranked Sojuz Zaretchny (0-3) in Cherepovec 74-70 on Friday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 74-70. Sojuz Zaretchny was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for guard Sergei Zakharov (194-86) who led his team to a victory with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Stanislav Zinchenko (203-87) contributed with 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Severstal players scored in double figures. Forward Aleksander Pushkin (203-87) answered with 19 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Nikolay Zhmako (196-89) added 7 points and 5 assists in the effort for Sojuz Zaretchny. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Severstal moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Sojuz Zaretchny still closes the standings with three games lost. Severstal will face league's second-placed Universitet-Yugra in Surgut in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sojuz Zaretchny will play at home against Ruskon-Mordovia (#8) in Saransk and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
