There was a minor upset when 8th ranked Jaszberenyi (5-8) was defeated on the road by tenth ranked Kormend (5-8) 82-72 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 82-72. American forward Matt Shaw (203-88, college: UNLV) stepped up and scored 22 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and the former international forward Csaba Ferencz (195-85, agency: Laszlo Vinko Group) chipped in 22 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Kormend's coach Tamas Hencsey used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. At the losing side Serbian center Rastko Dramicanin (207-86, agency: BeoExcell) responded with 18 points and 9 rebounds and Serbian guard Miljan Rakic (195-86, agency: BeoExcell) scored 14 points. Five Kormend and four Jaszberenyi players scored in double figures. Kormend moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Jaszberenyi. Kormend will meet higher ranked Soproni (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Jaszberenyi will play against Marso NYKK in Nyiregyhazi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
