Thirteenth-ranked Sojuz Zaretchny (4-15) used its home court advantage to challenge fourth ranked Ataman (13-6) on Saturday. The visitors from Rostov managed to secure only three-point victory 75-72. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 17 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 3 points. The winners were led by center Alexey Kurtsevich (209-89) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds and point guard Amiran Amirkhanov (187-86) supported him with 13 points and 4 assists. Even 18 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) by point guard Sergei Chudinovskich (193-81) did not help to save the game for Sojuz Zaretchny. Center Anton Lanchakov (202-85) added 10 points and 14 rebounds for the hosts. Five Ataman and four Sojuz Zaretchny players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Ataman have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 13-6 record. Loser Sojuz Zaretchny keeps the thirteenth place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Severstal. Ataman will meet at home league's leader Universitet-Yugra in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Sojuz Zaretchny will play against Ryazan (#6) and hope to secure a win.
