Regular Season Round 15: N.Novgorod - Triumph 76-80

There was a minor upset when 6th ranked BC Nizhny Novgorod (4-8) was defeated at home by eighth ranked Triumph Lyubertsy (4-6) 80-76. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But BC Nizhny Novgorod won fourth quarter 28-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Triumph Lyubertsy made 16-of-19 charity shots (84.2 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Triumph Lyubertsy especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for international Sergey Karasev (202-93) who led the winners and scored 22 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). American point guard Tywain McKee (188-86, college: Coppin St.) accounted for 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Triumph Lyubertsy's coach Vasiliy Karasev allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. International power forward Artem Yakovenko (205-88) came up with 23 points and 5 rebounds and American swingman Dijon Thompson (201-83, college: UCLA) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively for BC Nizhny Novgorod in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Triumph Lyubertsy moved-up to sixth place. BC Nizhny Novgorod at the other side dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. Triumph Lyubertsy will play against higher ranked Lokomotiv (#4) in Kuban in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BC Nizhny Novgorod will have a break next round.
