Top 16 Round 9: CSKA - ALBA 80-65

CSKA bounced back from the loss in the previous round of EuroLeague Top 16 to knock down Alba in the Russian capital. Nenad Krstic provided 20 points to lead the winners as they improved at 6-3 record in Group E. Alba fell at 1-8 record after the defeat. Alba jumped to a 7:3 lead early in the game and maintained it for some time. However CSKA capped the first period with five points in a row to take a 20:16 lead. CSKA opened the second quarter on a 12:0 run to build a 32:16 advantage. The hosts kept Alba at bay throughout the rest of the half posting a 44:33 lead at the interval. Foster and Nihad Djedovic dragged Alba within 7 points midway through the third term 50:57. CSKA were able to enter the fourth frame up by 9 points 63:54. Sonny Weems and Papaloukas gave the hosts an 11-point cushion early in the fourth period. But DaShaun Wood and Byars answered with back-to-back three-pointers as Alba trimmed the deficit at 5-point mark 65:70. Nenad Krstic scored four straight points to trigger a 10:0 run from the hosts that closed the game. Sonny Weems and Votontsevich delivered 10 points each for the winners. DaShaun Wood answered with 11 points for Alba. Zach Morley, Deon Thompson and Nihad Djedovic added 10 points apiece in the loss.
