The game between third ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (8-7) and ninth ranked Triumph Lyubertsy (6-9) was the most important one in the last round on Monday night. Spartak St.Petersburg was edged by Triumph Lyubertsy in a tough game in St.Petersburg 82-85. Spartak St.Petersburg was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 23-17 charge of Triumph Lyubertsy, which allowed them to win the game. They made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Triumph Lyubertsy especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. The best player for the winners was American point guard Tywain McKee (188-86, college: Coppin St.) who scored 24 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). International Sergey Karasev (202-93) chipped in 23 points. Five Triumph Lyubertsy players scored in double figures. Triumph Lyubertsy's coach Vasiliy Karasev used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was Greek center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-84) who recorded 25 points and 6 rebounds and American-Bosnian guard Zack Wright (195-85, college: Central Mo.) added 14 points, 7 assists and 4 steals respectively. Triumph Lyubertsy moved-up to fourth place. Spartak St.Petersburg at the other side keeps the third position with seven games lost. They share it with Lokomotiv. Triumph Lyubertsy will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Spartak St.Petersburg will play at home against Spartak-Prim. in Vladivostok and is hoping to win this game.
