Everything could happen in Rostov at the game between two tied teams. Both eleventh ranked Ruskon-Mordovia and 10th ranked Ataman had identical 2-3 record. But Ataman was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Saransk 74-69 on Sunday night. The winners were led by guard Pavel Aleksandrov (196-89) who scored that evening 20 points and point guard Alexandr Varnakov (185-92) supported him with 14 points. Even a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) by forward Kirill Pishchalnikov (204-87, college: VCU) did not help to save the game for Ataman. point guard Andrey Mateyunas (180-88) added 15 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Ruskon-Mordovia (3-3) moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Parma. Ataman lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh position with four games lost. They share it with AltajBasket. Ruskon-Mordovia will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ataman will play against Universitet-Yugra (#10) in Surgut and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
