Regular Season Round 15: Ryazan - Samara-SGEU 79-69

Not a big story in a game when 13th ranked Samara-SGEU (2-9) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Ryazan (10-3) 79-69 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Ryazan. Samara-SGEU was better in third quarter 20-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Samara-SGEU 39-26 including a 27-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for center Alexey Kurtsevich (210-89) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Center Maksim Polyakov (206-84, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) helped adding 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Ryazan players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Sergey Toporov (197-81) with 24 points and power forward Andrey Kirdyachkin (207-90) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ryazan maintains fourth place with 10-3 record. Samara-SGEU lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth position with nine games lost. Ryazan will face league's second-placed Novosybirsk on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Samara-SGEU will play against Irkut Irkutsk (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
