Eighth-ranked Irkut-2 (3-14) made lots of trouble for third ranked Dynamo-Stavr. (12-8) in Irkutsk on Thursday. The visitors from Stavropol managed to secure only one-point victory 69-68. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 69-68. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Dynamo-Stavr. made 10 blocks. Power forward Aleksey Vagner (204-83) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Aleksandr Samofalov (193-87) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. Four Dynamo-Stavr. players scored in double figures. Guard Evgeniy Konovalov (185-91) produced 11 points and 5 assists and forward Aleksandr Balakirev (205-93) added 8 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Dynamo-Stavr. maintains third position in League with 12-8 record having just one point less than leader MBA Moscow. Newly promoted Irkut-2 keeps the eighth place with 14 games lost. Dynamo-Stavr. are looking forward to face Tegas DR (#6) in the next round. Irkut-2 will play against BK 1716 in Omsk and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
