Regular Season Round 16: Irkutsk - Samara-SGEU 67-70

A very close game took place in Irkutsk between Samara-SGEU and Irkut Irkutsk. Thirteenth ranked Samara-SGEU (4-9) got a very close victory on the road over 14th ranked Irkut Irkutsk (1-13). Samara-SGEU managed to escape with a 3-point win 70-67 on Saturday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-17. But Irkut Irkutsk won second period 16-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Igor Samsonov (202-89) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and power forward Andrey Kirdyachkin (207-90) who added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Samara-SGEU's coach Sergei Zozulin allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side point guard Ilya Oleynikov (184-87) responded with 14 points and 7 assists and guard Aleksandr Kuznetsov (191-84) scored 15 points. Four Irkut Irkutsk players scored in double figures. Samara-SGEU moved-up to eleventh place. Irkut Irkutsk at the other side, also newcomer in the league, stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Samara-SGEU will meet higher ranked Spartak-Prim. (#6) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Irkut Irkutsk will play against the league's second-placed Avtodor (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
