Regular Season Round 17: Spartak-Prim. - Samara-SGEU 70-47

Date: January 21, 2014
Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Samara-SGEU (4-10) was outscored by sixth ranked Spartak-Prim. (9-5) in Vladivostok 70-47. The game was mostly controlled by Spartak-Prim.. Samara-SGEU was better in third quarter 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Samara-SGEU to just 2 points in first quarter. Spartak-Prim. held Samara-SGEU to an opponent 24.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 46.2 percent accuracy of the winners. Spartak-Prim. had a 28-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. Forward Alexander Fomin (206-86, agency: Interperformances) stepped up and scored 18 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners and Pavel Gromyko (197-89) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Power forward Andrey Kirdyachkin (207-90) responded with 13 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Sergei Pogosjan (174-95) scored 10 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Spartak-Prim.. They maintain sixth place with 9-5 record. Newly promoted Samara-SGEU dropped to the tenth position with ten games lost. They share it with Parma. Spartak-Prim. will play against TEMP-SUMZ Revda (#9) at home in the next round. Samara-SGEU will play against Ataman in Rostov and hopes to get back on the winning track.
