The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Ryazan as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Ryazan defeated 13th ranked Ataman at home 82-64. The game without a history. Ryazan led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They also forced 26 Ataman turnovers. Guard Victor Zvarykin (198-86) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Naturalized Belarusian forward Valentin Iurchik (207-87, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) contributed with 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Ryazan players scored in double figures. Forward Kirill Pishchalnikov (204-87, college: VCU) answered with 14 points and forward Andrey Petukhov (207-86) added 9 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Ataman. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ryazan (17-4) have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Ataman lost eleventh consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth place with 16 games lost. Ataman will play next round against strong Ural Ekaterinburg trying to get back on the winning streak. Ryazan will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
