Regular Season Round 22: Neuchatel - EI Massagno 80-76
Date: March 8, 2014
No shocking result in a game when second ranked Neuchatel (17-5) beat at home 7th ranked EI Massagno (5-17) 80-76 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But EI Massagno won third quarter 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Senegalese power forward Babacar Toure (205-85) notched a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and American guard Quinton Day (185-84, college: UMKC) supported him with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Even 23 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) by American point guard Erik Buggs (180-90, college: Valparaiso) did not help to save the game for EI Massagno. His fellow American import forward Ken Rancifer (196-91, college: San Diego) added 17 points and 11 rebounds for lost side. Five Neuchatel and four EI Massagno players scored in double figures. Neuchatel have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 17-5 record behind leader Lugano Tigers. Loser EI Massagno keeps the seventh place with 17 games lost. Neuchatel will meet Geneve Lions (#4) on the road in the next round. EI Massagno will play against Monthey and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
