Regular Season Round 26: Samara-SGEU - Ryazan 65-67

Ninth-ranked Samara-SGEU (11-13) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Ryazan (18-6) on Saturday. The visitors from Ryazan managed to secure only two-point victory 67-65. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Samara-SGEU. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Samara-SGEU won third quarter 18-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ryazan had a 31-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. Naturalized Belarusian forward Valentin Iurchik (207-87, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Dramir Zibirov (187-86) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Forward Alexey Nazarov (203-92) replied with 12 points and 7 rebounds and power forward Andrey Kirdyachkin (207-90) added 9 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Samara-SGEU. Four Samara-SGEU players scored in double figures. Samara-SGEU's coach Sergei Zozulin tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Ryazan maintains second position with 18-6 record having just two points less than leader Avtodor. Newly promoted Samara-SGEU keeps the ninth place with 13 games lost. Ryazan are looking forward to face Spartak-Prim. (#6) in Vladivostok in the next round. Samara-SGEU will play at home against AltajBasket and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
