Regular Season Round 16: Kazanochka - Neftyanik 53-72

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Kazanochka (8-8) was crushed at home by eighth ranked Neftyanik (8-8) 72-53 on Thursday. Neftyanik forced 35 Kazanochka turnovers and had a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Swingman Yana Matveeva (186-92) fired 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Guard Darya Filimonova (177-93) chipped in 16 points and 5 steals. Four Neftyanik players scored in double figures. Forward Olga Sizyakova (186-88) produced 10 points and the former international center Maria Nikitina (200-84) added 11 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Neftyanik moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Kazanochka and Gloria Moscow. Neftyanik will meet higher ranked Samara (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Kazanochka will play against Irtysh and hope to secure a win.
