There was no surprise when 6th ranked Monthey (4-9) was defeated on the road by third ranked Neuchatel (9-4) 76-70 on Friday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Monthey won third quarter 21-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Neuchatel won last quarter 25-20. Serbian forward Ivan Kuburovic (202-81) stepped up and scored 22 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and Senegalese power forward Pape Badji (208-92) chipped in 21 points and 13 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Darryl Webb (198-88, college: Indiana, PA) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import point guard Rodney Glasgow (178-92, college: VMI) scored 18 points and 5 assists. Neuchatel keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Lugano Tigers and Geneve Lions. Loser Monthey keeps the sixth place with nine games lost. Neuchatel will meet Starwings (#5) in the next round. Monthey will play against the league's leader Lugano Tigers and hope to secure a win.
