Host Lugano Tigers (1-0) smashed Neuchatel (0-1) 92-73. The game was mostly controlled by Lugano Tigers. Neuchatel was better in third quarter 20-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lugano Tigers dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Neuchatel's 36. Lugano Tigers forced 19 Neuchatel turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American swingman Antonio Ballard (193-88, college: Miami, OH) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import Matt Schneiderman (202-81, college: N.Iowa) accounted for 20 points and 4 assists. Ballard is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Lugano Tigers players scored in double figures. Lugano Tigers' coach Andrea Petitpierre allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Serbian forward Ivan Kuburovic (202-81) came up with 26 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and Senegalese power forward Babacar Toure (205-85) added 15 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Neuchatel in the defeat. Lugano Tigers will play against Starwings (#3) in Basel in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Neuchatel will play at home against Geneve Lions and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
