Regular Season Round 38: Neftyanik - Samara 75-72

The most exciting game of round 38 in the Superleague took place in Omsk. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Samara (18-17) to seventh ranked Neftyanik (16-17) 75-72 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Samara. Neftyanik made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 35 Samara turnovers. Strangely Samara outrebounded Neftyanik 37-25 including 24 on the defensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Samara helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Swingman Ekaterina Kiryanova (180-90) scored 22 points and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Elena Elgina chipped in 14 points and 6 assists during the contest. Forward Olga Ovcharenko (186-79) responded with 20 points and 8 rebounds and forward Yulia Poluyanova (191-92) scored 12 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Neftyanik maintains seventh position with 16-17 record. Samara at the other side keeps the sixth place with 17 games lost. Neftyanik will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Samara will play on the road against Stavropol (#9) and is hoping to win this game.
