Tenth-ranked Rossiya Novog. (15-13) gave a tough game to second ranked Samara-SGEU (20-8). Samara-SGEU managed to secure only three-point victory 74-71. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Rossiya Novog.. Samara-SGEU had a 13-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Rossiya Novog. was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Power forward Andrey Kirdyachkin (207-90) notched 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and center Alexey Kurtsevich (210-89) supported him with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Even 28 points by point guard Mikhail Kulagin (188-94, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) did not help to save the game for Rossiya Novog.. point guard Alexander Korchagin (188-88, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) added 10 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Samara-SGEU have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Parma. Newly promoted Rossiya Novog. keeps the tenth place with 13 games lost. Samara-SGEU will play against TEMP-SUMZ Revda (#5) at home in the next round. Rossiya Novog. will play against Ural Ekaterinburg (#3) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
