Second Stage Round 8: Neuchatel - Monthey 102-72
Date: April 4, 2015
Bottom-ranked Monthey (0-8) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 102-72 loss to third ranked Neuchatel (5-3) in Neuchatel on Saturday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game without a history. Neuchatel led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Neuchatel outrebounded Monthey 44-28 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized Senegalese forward Jules Aw (202-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds and Senegalese power forward Babacar Toure (205-85) who added 15 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. Neuchatel's coach Emmanuel Schmitt felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American swingman Devin Sweetney (198-87, college: St.Francis, PA) responded with 16 points and 8 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Rodney Glasgow (178-92, college: VMI) scored 19 points. Five Neuchatel and four Monthey players scored in double figures. Neuchatel moved-up to second place, which they share with Lugano Tigers. Loser Monthey still closes the standings with eight games lost. Neuchatel will meet Starwings (#5) in the next round. Monthey will play against the league's leader Geneve Lions and hopes to get finally their first victory.
