Regular Season Round 5: Winterthur - Lancy 74-51

Winterthur can celebrate their first win this season after four consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Lancy (0-5) 74-51 on Saturday. The game without a history. Winterthur led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Lancy to just 6 points in second quarter. Winterthur forced 30 Lancy turnovers. Strangely Lancy outrebounded Winterthur 41-28 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Nikki Dixon (178-24, college: Clemson) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and her fellow American import guard Heidi Anton (175-90, college: USF) chipped in 25 points and 4 steals. American power forward Toia Giggetts (183-92, college: JMU) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 21 rebounds and Malak Ezzakraoui (174-93) scored 9 points. Winterthur (1-4) left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with Pully. It was Lancy's fifth loss in a row. Lancy at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with five games lost. Winterthur will meet higher ranked Riva (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lancy will play against the league's second-placed Helios (#2) in Vetroz and hopes to get finally their first victory.
