Regular Season Round 9: Rusichi K. - Stary Sobol NT 74-72

The most exciting game of round 9 in the Higher League took place in Kursk. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Stary Sobol NT (3-5) to second ranked Rusichi K. (6-2) 74-72 on Friday evening. Rusichi K. made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 26 Stary Sobol NT turnovers. Forward Anton Belov (202-81) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks for the winners and guard Nikolay Zavyalov (188-91) chipped in 17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. The best for the losing side was power forward Aleksey Vagner (204-83) with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Ilya Aginskikh (203-94) scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. Stary Sobol NT's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Rusichi K. have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Newly promoted Rusichi K. maintains second place with 6-2 record having just -2 point less than leader Dynamo-MGTU. Stary Sobol NT at the other side dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Rusichi K. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Stary Sobol NT will play at home against Tegas DR (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
