Regular Season Round 17: MAFC - Kaposvari 86-90

There was no surprise in Budapest where 13th ranked MAFC (3-13) was defeated by eighth ranked Kaposvari (8-9) 90-86 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 12 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 90-86. Kaposvari dominated on the defensive end, holding MAFC to just 6 points in second quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to MAFC's 26. Kaposvari looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international power forward Roland Hendlein (206-86) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and naturalized Serbian center Marko Spica (205-86, college: Cent.Michigan, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) chipped in 17 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Indian-Canadian forward Robbie Sihota (201-87) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and American point guard Deville Smith (183-91, college: Tenn-Martin) scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Kaposvari. They maintain eighth place with 8-9 record. MAFC lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the twelfth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Marso NYKK. Kaposvari are looking forward to face higher ranked Alba (#5) in Szekesfehervar in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. MAFC will play at home against PVSK Pannon (#9) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
