Regular Season Round 33: Samara - Stavropol 65-48

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Stavropol (10-19) was defeated on the road by second ranked Samara (21-4) 65-48 on Friday. Samara made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Stavropol turnovers. Forward Olga Ovcharenko (185-79) stepped up and scored 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and swingman Olga Omelchenko (183-91) chipped in 13 points. The best for the losing side was center Liudmila Maltseva (190-88) with 8 points and 7 rebounds and power forward Natalja Gvozdeva (191-77) scored 11 points. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Samara have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain second place with 21-4 record having six points less than leader Dynamo-2 K. Loser Stavropol keeps the eighth position with 19 games lost. Samara will again meet at home Stavropol (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Stavropol will have a break next round.
