Eighth-ranked Stavropol (10-20) was very close to win a game against second ranked Samara (22-4). Samara managed to secure only three-point victory 62-59. However their fans expected much easier game. Samara forced 20 Stavropol turnovers. Forward Olga Ovcharenko (185-79) scored 22 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and swingman Yana Matveeva (186-92) chipped in 10 points during the contest. Samara's coach Alexander Garshin allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side power forward Natalja Gvozdeva (191-77) responded with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Polina Abyzova (175-88) scored 14 points. Samara have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 22-4 record having six points less than leader Dynamo-2 K. Stavropol lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 20 games lost. Samara will play against Neftyanik (#4) in Omsk in the next round. Stavropol will play at home against MBA-2 (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
