Regular Season Round 17: Helios - Bellinzona 86-63

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Helios (15-2) crushed 5th ranked Bellinzona (7-10) in Vetroz 86-63. The game was mostly controlled by Helios. Bellinzona was better in second period 26-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Bellinzona 49-23 including a 23-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Helios players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 2 passes made by Bellinzona's players. American forward Chelsea Poppens (188-91, college: Iowa St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and the former international forward Marielle Giroud (180-87, college: Franklin Pierce) chipped in 18 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Helios players scored in double figures. Helios' coach Erik Lehmann felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Khaalidah Miller (175-92, college: Georgia) responded with 27 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import forward Tamara Nesmith (182-91, college: Mount Olive) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Helios have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 15-2 record behind leader Fribourg. Bellinzona at the other side keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. Helios will play against Winterthur (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Bellinzona will play against Pully and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
