No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Bellinzona (9-10) smashed at home 7th ranked Winterthur (3-16) 78-52 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Bellinzona. Winterthur managed to win fourth quarter 22-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Winterthur to just 7 points in second quarter. Bellinzona dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Winterthur's 28. Bellinzona forced 21 Winterthur turnovers. It was a great evening for American forward Tamara Nesmith (182-91, college: Mount Olive) who led her team to a victory scoring 18 points and 8 rebounds. Her fellow American import guard Khaalidah Miller (175-92, college: Georgia) helped adding 17 points and 6 rebounds. Five Bellinzona players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Heidi Anton (175-90, college: USF) responded with 31 points and 9 rebounds and international swingman Cinzia Tomezzoli (175-88) scored 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bellinzona maintains fifth place with 9-10 record. Winterthur lost their sixth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the seventh position with 16 games lost. Bellinzona will meet higher ranked Riva (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Winterthur will play against Aarau and hope to secure a win.
