Regular Season Round 3: UMMC Junior - Stavropol 52-71

There was a surprise result when Stavropol (1-2) crushed UMMC Junior (1-2) in Ekaterinburg 71-52 on Saturday. Stavropol made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 UMMC Junior turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for guard Polina Abyzova (175-88) who led the winners and scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. Power forward Tatyana Ignatchenko (188-89) accounted for 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Point guard Yuliya Sorokina (176-94) came up with 20 points and 5 rebounds and forward Olga Lavrova (182-95) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for UMMC Junior in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Stavropol will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. UMMC Junior will play again against Stavropol (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
