Regular Season Round 5: Vasas Akademia - PEAC-Pecs 67-85

A Division top team - PEAC-Pecs (5-0) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they beat eighth ranked Vasas Akademia (2-3) in Budapest 85-67. The game was mostly controlled by PEAC-Pecs. Vasas Akademia managed to win fourth quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. PEAC-Pecs dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Vasas Akademia's 44. They outrebounded Vasas Akademia 37-25 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. PEAC-Pecs looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Vasas Akademia's players. The best player for the winners was Dorka Juhasz (189-99) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds. American forward Jessica Kuster (188-92, college: Rice) chipped in 18 points. Four PEAC-Pecs players scored in double figures. PEAC-Pecs' coach Boris Maljkovic used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Power forward Beatrix Meresz (184-99) produced 17 points and 6 rebounds and Bulgaria forward Radoslava Bachvarova (183-87, college: VCU) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. PEAC-Pecs have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 5-0 record. Vasas Akademia lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with three games lost. PEAC-Pecs will meet at home league's second-placed UNI Gyor in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Vasas Akademia will play against MKB Euroleasing (#6) in Sopron and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
