Regular Season Round 5: Winterthur - Boncourt 67-94

Bottom-ranked Winterthur (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 94-67 loss to fifth ranked Boncourt (3-2) in Winterthur. The game was mostly controlled by Boncourt. Winterthur was better in second period 34-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Winterthur to just 4 points in first quarter. Boncourt dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Winterthur's 34. Serbian-Montenegrin center Nemanja Calasan (204-85, college: Purdue, agency: HMS) nailed a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and American guard Trey Sumler (188, college: W.Carolina) accounted for 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Boncourt players scored in double figures. American guard Rashad Whack (190-91, college: Mt.St.Mary's) came up with 34 points (!!!) (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and Senegalese forward Badou Diagne (201, college: Co.Carolina) added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Winterthur in the defeat. Winterthur's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Boncourt moved-up to third place, which they share with Fribourg and Swiss Central. Winterthur at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Boncourt's next round opponent will be Starwings (#7) in Basel. Winterthur will play on the road against Lausanne (#10) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
