Regular Season Round 8: Atomeromu - UNI Gyor 56-58

Date: November 13, 2016
The most exciting game of round 8 in the A Division took place in Szekszard. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of second-ranked Atomeromu (5-2) to third ranked UNI Gyor (6-2) 58-56 in the game for the second place. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Atomeromu. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Strangely Atomeromu outrebounded UNI Gyor 38-26 including 25 on the defensive glass. 25 personal fouls committed by Atomeromu helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Cyesha Goree (190-93, college: Michigan, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import guard Brianna Kiesel (170-93, college: Pittsburgh) who added 8 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. UNI Gyor's coach Peter Volgyi used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Slovenia center Eva Lisec (192-95) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds and Slovenia swingman Maja Erkic (183-85) scored 8 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. UNI Gyor moved-up to second place. Atomeromu at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. UNI Gyor are looking forward to face Cegledi EKK (#7) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Atomeromu will play against PINKK-Pecsi (#11) and is hoping to win this game.
