Regular Season Round 9: Alba - Szolnok 85-79

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Szekesfehervar. First ranked Alba faced 4th placed Szolnok. Host Alba (8-1) defeated guests from Szolnok (5-3) 85-79. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Szolnok. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 24-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. They outrebounded Szolnok 40-27 including a 27-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Canadian guard Justin Edwards (190-92, college: Kansas St.) stepped up and scored 23 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and American point guard Brandon Taylor (178-94, college: Utah) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists. Five Alba players scored in double figures. Alba's coach Branislav Dzunic used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was international swingman David Vojvoda (196-90) with 20 points and 7 assists and American forward Troy Barnies (200-89, college: Maine) scored 19 points. Alba have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 8-1 record. Defending champion Szolnok keeps the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with ZTE KK and PVSK Pannon. Alba will meet Szedeak (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Szolnok will play against Vasas and hope to secure a win.
