Regular Season Round 11: Sakhalin - MBA Moscow 75-77

A very close game took place in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk between MBA Moscow and Sakhalin. Eleventh ranked MBA Moscow (3-7) got a very close victory on the road over 4th placed Sakhalin (6-3). MBA Moscow managed to escape with a 2-point win 77-75 on Tuesday evening. It was an exceptional evening for Pavel Afanasiev (196-96) who led the winners and scored 20 points. The former international forward Sergey Toporov (197-81, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) accounted for 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. International swingman Igor Smygin (197-87) came up with 11 points and 9 rebounds and international Artem Komolov (194-93) added 12 points and 4 assists respectively for Sakhalin in the defeat. Five Sakhalin players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. MBA Moscow moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Khimky-Podmos. Loser Sakhalin dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Univ.Surgut. MBA Moscow will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Sakhalin will play against Universitet-Yugra (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
