Regular Season Round 12: Starwings - Lausanne 76-71
Date: January 6, 2017
No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Starwings (7-4) beat 8th ranked Lausanne (4-7) in Basel 76-71 on Friday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Lausanne won third quarter 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Starwings made 28-of-37 free shots (75.7 percent) during the game, while Lausanne only scored six points from the stripe. They outrebounded Lausanne 51-30 including a 42-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. American players dominated also this game. The winners were led by guard Chris Jones (188-93, college: Angelo St.) who scored that evening 24 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Durell Vinson (201-85, college: Wagner) supported him with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Even 15 points and 5 rebounds by guard Karl Cochran (185-92, college: Wofford) did not help to save the game for Lausanne. Forward Roger Woods (196-93, college: UALR) added 12 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Starwings maintains fourth position with 7-4 record. Newly promoted Lausanne dropped to the ninth place with seven games lost. Starwings will meet Swiss Central (#8) in the next round. Lausanne will play against Geneve Lions and hope to secure a win.
