Date: January 6, 2017
LNA round 12 most important game was a victory of Monthey over second-best Fribourg 82-79 on Friday night. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Fribourg. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 82-79. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Monthey made 7 blocks. American players dominated the game. It was a good game for guard Brandon Young (193-91, college: De Paul) who led his team to a victory with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. Power forward Jordan Heath (208-91, college: Canisius, agency: Inception Sports) contributed with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners. Five Monthey players scored in double figures. Forward Travis Taylor (203-90, college: Xavier) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and point guard Derek Wright (179-86, college: Austin Peay St.) added 12 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists in the effort for Fribourg. Fribourg's coach Petar Aleksic rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Monthey (9-2) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Defending champion Fribourg keeps the second place with three games lost. Monthey are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Winterthur (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Fribourg will play against Boncourt (#7) and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
