Date: January 8, 2017
LNA top team - Monthey (10-2) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed eleventh ranked Winterthur (0-12) 104-81. The game was mostly controlled by Monthey. Winterthur managed to win fourth quarter 28-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Monthey dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Winterthur's 34. They outrebounded Winterthur 44-18 including a 34-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. Monthey looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Winterthur's players. American forward Markel Humphrey (198-86, college: Marshall, agency: Three Eye Sports) fired 18 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. French Rodrigue Maza (208-91, college: Academy of Art) chipped in 21 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Five Monthey players scored in double figures. Monthey's coach Niksa Bavcevic felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Rashad Whack (190-91, college: Mt.St.Mary's) produced 33 points (!!!) and the other American import swingman Shane Southwell (201-92, college: Kansas St.) added 12 points respectively for lost side. Monthey have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 10-2 record. Loser Winterthur still closes the standings with 12 games lost. Monthey will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Winterthur will play against Massagno (#10) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
