The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Universitet-Yugra as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Novosybirsk) loss. Universitet-Yugra defeated 4th ranked Irkut Irkutsk in Surgut 79-71. Universitet-Yugra made 17-of-21 charity shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Universitet-Yugra outrebounded Irkut Irkutsk 41-28 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Irkut Irkutsk was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian Nikola Lepojevic (195-82, agency: BeoExcell) who helped to win the game recording 27 points and 8 rebounds. Lithuanian point guard Linas Lekavicius (186-84, college: American) contributed with 17 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Aleksandr Zakharov (203-93) replied with 17 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Alexandr Varnakov (185-92) added 12 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Irkut Irkutsk. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Universitet-Yugra (10-3) have an impressive ten-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Samara-SGEU. Irkut Irkutsk lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with five games lost. Irkut Irkutsk will play next round against Ryazan trying to get back on the winning streak. Universitet-Yugra will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Ural Ekaterinburg on the road.
