Regular Season Round 21: Stavropol - Neftyanik 59-57

The most exciting game of round 21 in the Superleague 1 took place in Stavropol. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 4th placed Neftyanik (10-8) to fifth ranked Stavropol (9-11) 59-57 on Tuesday evening. Stavropol forced 25 Neftyanik turnovers. It was a good game for guard Polina Abyzova (175-88) who led her team to a victory with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Power forward Natalja Gvozdeva (191-77) contributed with 7 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Kseniya Chinaeva (180-89) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds and guard Elena Elgina (170-87) added 14 points in the effort for Neftyanik. Neftyanik's coach Elena Lazutkina rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Stavropol maintains fifth place with 9-11 record, which they share with Nika and MBA-2. Neftyanik at the other side keeps the fourth position with eight games lost. Stavropol is looking forward to face bottom-ranked UMMC Junior (#10) in Ekaterinburg in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Neftyanik will play on the road against the league's second-placed BC Rostov (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
