Very predictable result when fifth ranked Stavropol (11-11) defeated at home bottom-ranked UMMC Junior (5-17) 76-68 on Sunday. Stavropol made 39-of-47 free shots (83.0 percent) during the game, while UMMC Junior only scored twelve points from the stripe. Stavropol forced 23 UMMC Junior turnovers. UMMC Junior was plagued by 33 personal fouls down the stretch. Power forward Natalja Gvozdeva (191-77) had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Svetlana Kuznetsova (174-75) chipped in 18 points (made all of her ten free throws !!!) during the contest. At the losing side swingman Sabina Abaidullina (181-97) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and point guard Viktoriia Zavialova (166-98) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Four UMMC Junior players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Stavropol maintains fifth position with 11-11 record. UMMC Junior lost seventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 17 games lost. Stavropol will face Dynamo-2 M. (#9) in Moscow in the next round.
