Regular Season Round 14: Aarau - Winterthur 79-66

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both third ranked Aarau and 5th ranked Winterthur had identical 6-6 record. This time Aarau used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Winterthur 79-66 on Friday night. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Aarau dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Winterthur's 30 and made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Kristina Santiago (185-89, college: Cal Poly - SLO, agency: LBM Management) who had a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. The other American import guard Niya Johnson (173-93, college: Baylor) chipped in 24 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. American guard Sarah Halejian (175-92, college: Yale) produced 35 points (!!!) and forward Miriam Baumann (180-93, college: Quest) added 17 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Aarau maintains third position with 7-6 record having seven points less than leader Fribourg. Winterthur lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with seven games lost. Aarau are looking forward to face league's second-placed Helios in Vetroz in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Winterthur will play on the road against Pully and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
