Regular Season Round 15: PEAC-Pecs - PINKK-Pecsi 94-58
Date: January 28, 2017
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Pecs: PEAC-Pecs (#3) and PINKK-Pecsi (#9). PEAC-Pecs (11-3) crushed visiting PINKK-Pecsi (2-12) by 36 points 94-58. The game was mostly controlled by PEAC-Pecs. PINKK-Pecsi was better in fourth quarter 28-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. PEAC-Pecs held PINKK-Pecsi to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 56.9 percent accuracy of the winners. PEAC-Pecs forced 22 PINKK-Pecsi turnovers and outrebounded them 38-20 including a 30-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. PEAC-Pecs players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by PINKK-Pecsi's players. 25 personal fouls committed by PINKK-Pecsi helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for Serbian point guard Sanja Mandic (178-95, agency: BeoBasket) who led the winners and scored 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. American forward Jessica Kuster (188-92, college: Rice) accounted for 17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals for the winning side. Four PEAC-Pecs players scored in double figures. American guard Monica Engelman (180-91, college: Kansas) came up with 18 points and Serbian power forward Nevena Markovic (193-93, college: IUPUI) added 7 points and 6 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) respectively for PINKK-Pecsi in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for PEAC-Pecs. They moved-up to second place. PINKK-Pecsi lost their third game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 12 games lost. PEAC-Pecs' next round opponent will be Vasas Akademia (#8) in Budapest which should be theoretically another easy game. PINKK-Pecsi will play at home against Cegledi EKK and hope to win that game.
